The Covid Forecast Consortium continues to project an increase in Corona-infected people in hospitals.
Within the past seven days, the number had grown by 43 percent to 1,370 people. Despite the increase, the Covid outbreak is expected to remain below last year’s peak levels over the next two weeks, the Wednesday update said. In addition, it said only about one-fifth of hospital admissions of infected people are causal because of Covid-19.
Normal wards across Austria are expected to see an increase from 1,304 Corona-positive individuals (as of yesterday, Tuesday) to a mean of 1,496 affected individuals by March 8. The range of variation is 1,156 to 1,936 occupied beds. In the intensive care units, the number of covid patients is expected to remain approximately the same, according to the model calculators of TU Vienna, MedUni Vienna and Gesundheit Österreich GmbH (GÖG), the previous day there were 66.
In terms of new infections, the data from wastewater monitoring available up to February 16 show an upward trend. In contrast, the actual reported infection figures in the Epidemiological Reporting System (EMS) are now stagnating and are already declining in some federal states, the experts explained the uncertain data situation for case numbers.
On Wednesday, 6,763 new Corona infections were reported in Austria.
